What is Worship?

When we receive an expensive gift, we feel special and respond with a grateful gesture. When our team wins, we jump for joy and celebrate. We consider these reactions to be normal and natural.

IT'S NATURAL!
Worship is a perfectly natural response to the knowledge and experience of the wonderful and healing grace and goodness of our God.

It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. For you make me glad by your deeds, O LORD; I sing for joy at the works of your hands. (Psalm 92:1-4)

HE IS WORTHY OF IT
Of course, we worship God simply for who He is and what He has done.

For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God. (Psalm 86:10)

HE COMMANDS IT
We also worship Him out of obedience and sacrifice.

Praise the LORD. Praise the name of the LORD; praise him, you servants of the LORD, you who minister in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God. Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant. (Psalm 135:1-3)

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that confess his name. (Hebrews 13:15)

AN INTEGRAL PART OF MVCF
In addition to the study of the Bible, one of the most important elements of our fellowship at MVCF is our time of worship and praise to God.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. (Psalm 100:4-5)

Praise the LORD. Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints. (Psalm 149:1)

IT'S PERSONAL
It is a beautiful and spiritual experience to give the Lord the glory that is due Him.

ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name. Bring an offering and come before him; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness. (1 Chronicles 16:29)

Praise the LORD. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him! (Psalm 147:1)

IT'S CORPORATE
It is wonderful to know that He literally inhabits the praises of His people.

But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. (Psalm 22:3 KJV)

WORSHIP IS NOT JUST SINGING!
There are various ways to Worship God. We worship Him:

What matters most is that we worship Him sincerely (Psalm 51:16-17).

IT CHANGES US
A wonderful work takes place in our hearts when we worship God.

Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." (1 Peter 5:5)

When we humbly give ourselves, we can see Him more clearly and focus on His attributes. It is there that He restores our soul.

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters (Psalm 23:3)
